The National Council on Urban Investing Education (NUBIAN) is a nonprofit organization founded to eliminate generational poverty in underserved communities—starting right here in Mississippi—by teaching stock market investing and wealth-building principles to K–12 students, families, and educators in underserved communities.
The Problem:
In Mississippi, 46.4% to 68% of minority families live below the poverty line, depending on the county. For many youths, poor life decision-making is a consequence of economic desperation. Theft, larceny, burglary, drug activity, and even human trafficking are symptoms of a larger disease: generational poverty. Minority children growing up in these environments face declining health, poor academic achievement, increased drop-out rates, and an alarming likelihood of incarceration. According to America’s Health Rankings, children who experience poverty for one year or more are significantly more likely to remain in poverty into adulthood.
The Vision:
By the year 2055, Mississippi will be known around the world as the state with the highest per capita number of Black millionaires.
Not because of casinos. Not because of lottery tickets. Not blind luck.
But because we taught our kids to invest early, wisely, and consistently.
We are exposing students to the blueprint for building wealth, ownership, and pride, Stock Market Investing.
That’s what we’re building—one student, one school, one family, one community, one day, and one stock at a time.
